  • In 2011 the level of export unit value grew by 12.2% and of import unit value rose by 6%
    In 2011, compared to 2010, the average level of export unit value (UV) grew by 12.2% and the average level of import unit value rose by 6.0%, according to the data of the Central Statistical Bureau of Latvia.
  • Shaping EU policy on European Company law
    The European Commission has launched an in-depth consultation on the future of European company law. Europe needs a company law framework that is adapted to the needs of the society of today and to the evolution of the economic environment. EU company law has played a central part in building the single market. It is now time to see whether today's needs are still met by the existing legal framework. An on-line public consultation is to collect comments from all stakeholders; the deadline for contributions is 14 May 2012.
  • In Q4 the average monthly gross wages and the real wages in Estonia grew
    According to Statistics Estonia, in the 4th quarter of 2011, the average monthly gross wages and salaries were 865 euros and the average hourly gross wages and salaries were 5.19 euros. Compared to the 4th quarter of 2010, the average monthly gross wages and salaries grew 6.3% and the average hourly gross wages and salaries by 7.4%.
  • 986.6 thousand persons were employed in Latvia in Q4
    The Central Statistical Bureau has compiled the Labour Force Survey results on the 4th quarter of 2011. 3.7 thousand households were surveyed and 6.7 thousand persons aged 15-74 years were interviewed. Therefore the results on situation in the labour market and population activity include this age group. The extrapolation of the survey data is based on the number of population at the beginning of 2011, not calculated according to the Population and Housing Census results.
  • Latvia records EU's largest increase in new industrial orders in December
    In December 2011, compared to December 2010, seasonally-adjusted industrial orders grew 40% in Latvia, which was the steepest increase across the European Union, according to the latest data from the EU's statistical office Eurostat.

    Two large banks, Swedbank and DnB Nord, have filed a criminal case against Intopex Chemicals, a company with shady owners, that was last week declared bankrupt, writes LETA/Äripäev.
